Knowledge, practices and intention to consume omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids among pregnant and breastfeeding women in Morogoro Municipality, Tanzania

Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids are beneficial throughout the human life cycle. With regard to early child development, maternal acid status influence cognitive psychomotor development of unborn child. Regardless their importance in childhood they still receive less attention when compared other nutrients. This paper aimed assess knowledge, practices intention consume among pregnant breastfeeding women Morogoro Municipality study adopted Theory Planned Behavior (TPB). A cross-sectional survey which involved 318 randomly selected was conducted three wards Municipality. Data were collected through face interview using a questionnaire. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 used data analysis. Knowledge, Attitude Practices (KAP) Scores with demographic characteristics by Analysis variance (ANOVA) level significance set at p<0.05. The findings revealed limited knowledge on acids. However most participants showed positive attitude towards food sources intended use them future if properly trained. Level education had significant respondents’ (p = 0.003) attitudes 0.004). It concluded that, any attempt increase consumption Tanzania have pay beliefs.   Key words: acids, attitude, intention, women, women.
